Rab 10 Years On

Every hiker, climber, or outdoorsman knows Rab Microlight jackets for their great fit, convenient versatility and...amazing warmth! At Allweathers we’re celebrating 10 Years Of Rab and looking at how Rab has lovingly-honed the brand’s iconic Microlight range to become every climber’s must-have for winter peaks.

Rab Microlight jackets have always been about practicality and reliability. Created out of necessity in 1973 by Rab Carrington, all Rab products speak to the mountain experience of their founder. Everything about the Microlight range, from their packability, lightweight design, and innovative materials, has been consistently improved and flexibly adapted over time. Whether you’re headed to the Peak District or the Himalayas, there are so many reasons why the Microlight is the perfect companion.

Windproof, warm, and water repellent
We can’t control the elements, but that’s no reason to miss out on a winter adventure. Because, as we all know, the highest peaks yield the most amazing views! A quality jacket can make or break an outdoor experience, especially if chilly rain and wind start to set in. We’ve always admired the Rab Microlight Alpine Army/Cactus for milder conditions, with the exceptional warmth and comfort of lightweight 750 fill-power ethically-sourced hydrophobic down. To keep the wind out, a Pertex® Quantum exterior offers windproof performance – and peace of mind!

The Rab Microlight Alpine Range is designed with a durable water repellent (DWR) finish to keep out drizzle and moisture. Like the Cactus Rab Microlight Alpine Jacket, the Rab Microlight Alpine in Beluga/Dijon is designed with clever comfort features. Diverted hood baffle lines are designed into the jacket to fit your figure, and clean finish elasticated cuffs play their part to keep in your body heat. And yes, of course, they’re hooded – for proper reliable protection against mild showers, both Rab Microlight Alpine jackets have flexible polymer peaked hoods with laminated brims! So while they’re designed for warmth and comfort on mountain slopes, they look great as casual weekend wear, too.

10 Years On and Rab is still made for climbers
Mountaineering convenience is packed into every feature of Rab Microlight Jackets and has remained at the heart of all Rab designs throughout the years. Rab Microlight Alpine jackets include harness-compatible hand pockets, chest pockets for storage, and handy stuff sacks that are simple to attach to backpacks or day packs. The Rab Microlight Jacket in Black/Shark is also constructed with Pertex® outer layer and micro stitch-through for warmth. This line of Microlight jackets also boasts hem construction with a thoughtful dual drawcord adjustment for keeping you snug.

Ethically sourced materials for that extra feel-good factor
All Rab Microlight jackets are made using ethically-sourced goose down, developed by professionals for feel-good insulation. The Rab Microlight Jacket Deep Ink/Footprint is one of our favourites for daily wear and a great example of how Rab Fluorocarbon-free Hydrophobic Down is as light as air. Not only this, but it’s as packable as any other Microlight jacket and comes in small to extra-extra-large sizes. A cheeky, endearing twist on classic black also works all year round and looks just as timeless with jeans or climbing trousers. Plus, we’ve been won over by just now seamlessly our gloves now fit with the elasticated cuffs – no more cold fingers!

Versatile, effortless style
For milder days, the Rab Microlight Vest Black/Shark offers core warmth where layering up is a priority. No matter how gloomy the weather gets, you’ll feel exceptionally comfy in this ultra-light down gillet, which can be packed away when the wind and cold take a break. With a YKK® reverse coil front zip, insulated zip baffle and chin guard to keep from snagging, the entire vest weighs under ten ounces. Alongside the cuddle-factor, the two harness-compatible hand pockets will keep your fingers from freezing this winter.

Over time, Rab has made visually subtle but technologically cutting-edge advancements to their Microlight range through constant iterations and innovation. 10 Years On gives us a great opportunity to admire and appreciate the modern touches that take our trusty Rab products into the next decade. We at Allweathers are particularly proud of our Rab Microlight jackets , which keep us not only toasty warm but also have our backs covered in the great outdoors!
